about the exhibition

As part of its dialogues exhibition program, which functions as information room for the exhibitions or project space for guest artists already represented in the collection, espacio 1414 has invited Ada Bobonis, who will present a new body of work titled proto: types | times | rhythms | patterns, consisting of recent sculptures and videos.

on the floor which suggest a model of a city under construction, filled with scaffoldings and temporary structures that will disappear once the buildings, suggested by the empty spaces in the sculptures, have been finished. This project is a reflection of the artist on her immediate context, the city and the changes that are inextricably bound to it. For Bobonis, architecture becomes a platform from which to address issues regarding society, politics and the economy. In this recent series of sculptures she meditates on the effects of humankind on its environment, and the consequences of change. The videos that accompany the sculptures present somewhat abstract images of objects that exhibit a random and unpredictable –chaotic—behavior, which nevertheless points towards an order and a natural cycle of things; these videos provide a second reading in which change is perceived as a natural phenomenon. As a group, these works invite us to reflect on the dichotomy between nature and culture, but also on the inevitable and instrumental role of change in the evolution of both natural and artificial worlds.
